GENERAL RULES - OUTDOOR RANGES (STONINGTON)

THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS REQUIRES ALL NEW MEMBERS, PRIOR TO USING ANY RANGE, TO BECOME FAMILIAR WITH AND FOLLOW THE OPERATIONAL AND ORGANIZATIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF EACH INDIVIDUAL RANGE. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS EXIST FOR HUNTING AND FISHING ACTIVITIES BECAUSE THEY ARE NEAR AND AROUND SOME OF THE OUTDOOR RANGES. KNOWING THE RULES IS ONE STEP TO ENSURE A SAFE AND HAPPY MEMBERSHIP EXPERIENCE.

Posted Rules

  1. HEARING AND EYE PROTECTION ARE “MANDATORY” ON ALL RANGES FOR ALL SHOOTERS, GUESTS AND SPECTATORS.

  2. ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ARE “NOT ALLOWED” ON ANY RANGE AT ANY TIME.

  3. SHOOTING AFTER CONSUMING ANY ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE IS “PROHIBITED”.

  4. FULLY AUTOMATIC AND SELECT-FIRE FIREARMS OR SEMI-AUTOMATIC FIREARMS FITTED WITH TRIGGER RATCHETS OR OTHER ADD-ON DEVICES TO SIMULATE AUTOMATIC FIRE “ARE PROHIBITED” ON ALL CLUB RANGES.

  5. ALL RANGES REQUIRE SIGN IN AND OUT FOR ALL SHOOTERS USING PROPER NAME (FIRST & LAST), MEMBERSHIP NUMBER, WITH TIME & DATE ANNOTATED. “PLEASE INCLUDE THE NAMES OF EACH GUEST”.

  6. A MODEST DONATION FOR “GUEST USAGE OF OUR RANGES IS GREATLY APPRECIATED ($3.00 OR $4.00). DONATIONS COVER THE USE OF ALL THE OUTDOOR RANGES (EXCEPT SKEET FIELDS) FOR THE ENTIRE DAY. ALL DONATIONS ARE DEDICATED TO OFFSET RANGE UPKEEP. DONATION REQUESTS DO NOT APPLY TO FAMILY MEMBERS. THE DONATION DROP BOX IS LOCATED IN THE MULTI-PURPOSE RANGE BUILDING.

  7. THE FOLLOWING AMMUNITIONS ARE “NOT ALLOWED” ON ANY RANGE: TRACER, INCENDIARY OR ARMOR PIERCING.

  8. THE RANGES ARE AVAILABLE FOR USE BETWEEN 9 A.M. AND SUNSET (AS POSTED IN THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER). THE MEMBER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR KNOWLEDGE OF SPECIFIC SUNSET TIMES.

  9. MEMBERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR GUESTS AT ALL TIMES. ALL MINORS (UNDER AGE 18) “MUST” BE SUPERVISED AT ALL TIMES. ALL GUESTS “MUST” BE ACCOMPANIED BY A MEMBER AT ALL TIMES. DURING OCCASIONS WHERE A MEMBER MUST LEAVE THE RANGE FOR ANY REASON, THE GUEST “MUST” ALSO DEPART THE RANGE UNLESS ANOTHER MEMBER ASSUMES RESPONSIBILITY.

  10. PLEASE BE COURTEOUS TO OTHER SHOOTERS AT ALL TIMES.

  11. PLACE SHOOTING/TARGET DEBRIS IN TRASH CANS OR THE BURN BIN ON MULTI-PURPOSE RANGE.

  12. REFER TO RANGE RULE BOOKLET FOR COMPLETE RANGE REGULATIONS.

  13. REPORT ANY SAFETY OR MAINTENANCE ISSUES TO THE OUTDOOR RANGE COMMITTEE OR ANY CLUB OFFICER.

  14. GENERAL OPERATION & REQUIREMENTS

    REMOVE (PICK UP) YOUR DEBRIS BEFORE YOU LEAVE AND THROW IT IN THE PROPER CONTAINER(S) GENERALLY LOCATED IN THE RANGE HOUSE. PLEASE HELP US KEEP THE SHOOTING RANGES FREE FROM LITTER.

    ALWAYS ENTER RANGES USING THE DOORWAY OF THE SHOOTING HOUSE OR DESIGNATED APPROACH FROM BEHIND THE FIRING LINE. DO NOT ENTER OR APPROACH THE RANGE FROM ANY OTHER DIRECTION.

    DURING CLUB SANCTIONED EVENTS, QUALIFIED RANGE SAFETY OFFICERS ARE ALWAYS IN ATTENDANCE ON ALL ACTIVE RANGES. RANGE SAFETY OFFICERS ARE REQUIRED TO SUPERVISE UNDER AGE SHOOTERS ON A ONE ON ONE BASIS. THIS REQUIREMENT ENSURES A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL SHOOTERS.

    POLICE QUALIFICATIONS WILL BE POSTED IN THE RANGE HOUSE AND IN CLUB HOUSE AT THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE DATE. ADDITIONALLY, A NOTICE WILL GENERALLY BE PUBLISHED IN THE NEWSLETTER OR BY E-MAIL IN AN EFFORT TO MINIMIZE THE IMPACT ON CLUB SHOOTERS.

    DEFECTIVE OR DUD AMMUNITION MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE RANGE BY THE MEMBER FOR DISPOSAL.

    ALL DISCARDED BRASS RE-LOADABLE AND NON RE-LOADABLE CASES SHOULD BE PLACED IN METAL RECYCLE CONTAINERS. PAPER OR CARDBOARD SHOULD BE PUT IN TRASH CONTAINERS. PLEASE EMPTY TRASH CONTAINERS WHEN THEY ARE FULL INTO THE DUMPSTER LOCATED IN THE PARKING LOT.

    A FIRST AID BOX IS LOCATED IN THE CLUB HOUSE MEETING ROOM AND VARIOUS SHOOTING RANGE HOUSES FOR EMERGENCY USE. PLEASE FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THEIR LOCATIONS. PLEASE INFORM THE RANGE COMMITTEE IF SUPPLIES ARE USED TO RESTOCK THE BOX.

    DOORS TO SHOOTING HOUSES SHOULD BE CLOSED DURING SHOOTING TO MINIMIZE NOISE FROM THE RANGE.

    PLEASE CONTACT YOUR RANGE COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON WITH ANY QUESTIONS. CONTACT INFORMATION IS PROVIDED ON THE MONTHLY NEWSLETTER.

    FOR YOUR HEALTH AND SAFETY THE RANGE COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS THAT SHOOTERS DO NOT EAT, DRINK FROM OPEN CONTAINERS OR SMOKE WHEN NEAR THE SHOOTING BENCH AREA. YOU SHOULD WASH UP AFTER SHOOTING.

    PLEASE ADDRESS ALL SAFETY ISSUES WITH MEMBERS IMMEDIATELY AS THEY OCCUR, AND FORWARD ANY SAFETY ISSUES TO THE RANGE COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON AND THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR RESOLUTION.

    VIOLATION OF THESE RULES MAY SUBJECT YOU TO A DISCIPLINARY REVIEW BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS.
