s two candidates to choose from, Ernest Celotto Jr. & Steve Whaley. Ple=
ase be sure to follow the procedures for voting either by mail or in person=
so that your vote counts. The in-person voting will take place on August 2=
1 between 6:00 =E2=80=93 7:25pm in the Skeet Field warming house. Election =
results will be announced during the meeting.
SPEICIAL MEETING =E2=80=93 A Special Meeting has been call=
ed for August 21 to address the availability of a Family Package option to =
members in good standing. The BOD agreed to bring this option to the member=
ship as follows:
FAMILY PACKAGE OUTLINE
A Family Pac=
kage option is available to any Regular or Life Member in good standing for=
an annual fee of $75. The Family Package option may be initiated at any ti=
me during the year but shall =E2=80=9Cnot be pro-rated=E2=80=9D=

Package Option.Family Package members shall include the adult spouse/part=
ner of the Regular/Life member living at the same address.Family Package members =
shall be issued a key fob, shall have full use of club facilities and be su=
bject to all club regulations and/or training requirements. The Regular/Lif=
e member shall be responsible for the actions of all Family Package members=
.Family Pa=
ckage members shall be allowed to bring guests to the club.Family Package members sha=
ll not have voting rights in the club.Family Package members shall have their own bag=
limits for hunting and fishing. Family Package members shall be all=
owed to contribute to the Regular member=E2=80=99s work hour requirements. If the Regu=
lar Member or life member passes away, the Family Package member may apply =
for Regular Membership without being placed on the waiting list.
Application For Family Membership: A separate application=
will be required (TBD). An orientation will also be required as well as th=
e standard background investigation prior to membership issue.
(If approved, this Outline will be maintained on file by the Member=
ship Committee & Club Secretary to insure consistent long-term applicat=
ion.)
Proposed By-law Change:
ARTICLE VI QUALIFICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP CLASSIFICATIONS AND=
PRIVILEGES
New Section:
Section 7. Family Package Membership: A Family Package Mem=
bership option is available to any Regular or Life Member in good standing =
in accordance with Section 1, for an annual fee. The Family Package members=
hip may be initiated at any time during the year but shall not be pro-rated=
. Family Package members shall include the adult spouse/partner of the Regu=
lar/Life member living at the same address. The Family Package Member shall=
have all rights and privileges of the Club consistent with Section 1, exce=
pt for voting rights. The Family Package member shall be allowed to contrib=
ute to the Regular member=E2=80=99s work hour requirements. A family Packag=
e Member in good standing may apply for regular membership at any time in t=
he manner consistent with Section 6. The Regular/Life member shall be respo=
nsible for the actions of the Family Package member.
Revise:
Section 6. Sons, daughters and parents (birth, adopted, st=
epchildren and stepparents) and Family Package Members of =
active or deceased members who are eligible and apply for membership may im=
mediately embark on the membership process the first time they apply for me=
mbership. They will be offered an indoctrination meeting as soon as an agre=
eable date can be set. They will be read at the first available membership =
meeting, be posted, and be voted upon at the following regular membership m=
eeting. They may be granted membership even if their membership puts the cl=
ub regular membership over the maximum number set at the annual meeting
The genesis for this proposal began over 15 years ago but was never=
brought to the membership. A club wide survey was sent out, 72% of the res=
pondents indicated they were in favor of a family type membership. The impl=
ementation of this proposal will allow the adult family member to have acce=
ss to the club when the regular member is not available (working, out to se=
a, deployment etc.) giving him/her the ability to enjoy the club as well as=
being able to supervise younger family members while engaged in the sporti=
ng activities. This is a major step in broadening the Club=E2=80=99s baseli=
ne and be in-step with numerous major sporting organizations throughout the=
country.

North Stonington/Voluntown Grounds Update
August, the hot summer month. Still, much is=
going on in the club. As I said at the July meeting, The Forestry Plan has=
been approved and Ray Thiel has signed the paperwork for us to receive the=
reimbursement from the NRCS. With that several members had questions on th=
e proposed projects that will come from this Plan. I would like to clarify =
to all members that there are several recommendations for our property. As =
many may know, I have been concerned for the health of the Beech trees on t=
he property for several years now. This concern was expressed by the Forest=
er and Biologist from NRCS. I just want to clear up a couple of facts.
Yes, they recommend removal of the Beech trees as there is no solution thus=
far for the control of the nematode that is killing the Beech. We also hav=
e standing dead and damaged oaks on the property. One recommendation is a S=
elective Harvest on a portion of the land. So that everyone understands, al=
l I have received are verbal recommendations. This Fall they receive their =
Funding and we may have some options. On July 17th I had them back out to t=
he property with one of their Engineers to look at the viability of a strea=
m crossing for Pendleton Brook, the brook south of the Pond. They were plea=
sed with the areas I showed them for a possible stream crossing. No contrac=
ts have been signed for anything at this point. As this progresses, like al=
ways I will keep the Board informed of options that are proposed to the Clu=
b.
Also August is our elections for Club Officers, This year there is only one=
position that has come up contested, Director-at-Large position previously=
held by Bill Salisbury. I have known Bill since I became a member many yea=
rs ago. Him being the Grounds Chairman in NS/V and a Director. He and I hav=
e worked closely together since I became the Grounds committee chair severa=
l years ago. He has been a great person to talk about the property to and t=
o learn of many of the practices that have been put forth for this great pi=
ece of land we own. I want to personally thank him for his dedication to th=
e land and our Club for so many years.
With that, I am running for the Director-at-Large this year. I have spent m=
any hours at the club and on the phone with Bill. He has been my direct lin=
e to the Board for many projects and happenings up in NS/V. I would like to=
keep that line of communication with all of our Board members by running f=
or Director-at-Large this year. I always welcome questions from any member =
with regards to the NS/V property and the many happenings up there. And als=
o sharing any knowledge I learn through the many organizations we get invol=
ved with for our property management. I am available to contact any t=
ime via email or phone. I can not always answer my phone when working but I=
will always call back as long as you leave me a contact number to call bac=
k. My goal is to make NS/V a great place where all members can walk, fish, =
hunt, or just enjoy the great outdoors. We have made many improvements in t=
he last couple of years and many more in the future. I am asking for you to=
please support me as I run For Director-at-Large, Lets keep making this a =
club we all can be proud of and use for many years to come.

According to the NRA, the three fundamental rules for safe gun handlin=
g are:
1. ALWAYS keep the =
gun pointed in a safe direction.
This is the primary rule of gun safety. A safe direction means that the gun=
is pointed so that even if it were to go off it would not cause injury or =
damage. The key to this rule is to control where the muzzle or front end of=
the barrel is pointed at all times. Common sense dictates the safest direc=
tion, depending on different circumstances.
2. ALWAYS keep your=
finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
When holding a gun, rest your finger on the trigger guard or along the side=
of the gun. Until you are actually ready to fire, do not touch the trigger=
.
3. ALWAYS keep the =
gun unloaded until ready to use.
Whenever you pick up a gun, immediately engage the safety device if possibl=
e, and, if the gun has a magazine, remove it before opening the action and =
looking into the chamber(s) which should be clear of ammunition. If you do =
not know how to open the action or inspect the chamber(s), leave the gun al=
one and get help from someone who does.
You can find additional information about safe firearms use and operat=
ion at training.nra.org. Do you have Personal Firearms Liability insurance to cover any incidents=
that may arise from using a firearm? Learn more about this Personal Firearms Liability coverage here=
